Home Assistance puts your Home Assistant on the XENEON EDGE: lights, climate, blinds, media, scenes, locks, sensors and cameras, live, with the controls for each. The widget reaches Home Assistant through Qaem Hub, a free app for your PC, so you'll install that first, then import the widget and connect.
Before you start
Setup
Install Qaem Hub and add its Home Assistant module
- Download and run
Qaem Hub Setup.exe. It installs for your Windows account, starts with Windows and waits in the tray. - In Qaem Hub, open Add modules, select Home Assistant and click Install selected.
The module keeps the connection to your Home Assistant and holds the sign-in. Set up Qaem Hub covers the install in more detail, including the SmartScreen warning. More about the app is on the Qaem Hub page.
Get and import the widget
- Get the
.icuewidgetfile from the Elgato Marketplace. If you bought it on qaemdev.com, download it from Account → Downloads at /account/downloads. The Home Assistance page links to both. - Double-click the file. iCUE picks it up and imports it.
- If nothing happens, open iCUE, go to the Widgets panel, use the + button and choose the file.
Place it and pick its Widget type
Open your EDGE's layout in iCUE and drag Home Assistance onto it. Every layout fits any tile size, landscape or portrait.
In the widget's settings beside the layout, choose a Widget type:
| Widget type | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Tiles | A grid of devices to switch, with their levels. |
| Control | One device, large, with all its controls. |
| Room | One room's lights and devices. |
| Sensors | Sensor values, each with its last 24 hours as a graph. |
| Scenes | Your scenes and scripts, one tap to run. |
| Camera | Camera stills, refreshed every 10 seconds. |
Add the widget more than once to give each copy its own job.
Connect your Home Assistant
On the EDGE, the widget shows Connect Home Assistant. It looks for Home Assistant on your network as soon as it opens.
- Pick your Home Assistant from the list, or type its address, such as
http://homeassistant.local:8123. Find again looks once more. - Tap Connect. A browser tab opens on your PC with your Home Assistant's own login page.
- Sign in and approve. The widget shows Finish in your browser until you do, then loads your home. If you closed the tab, tap Open again.
On a small tile the widget shows just a Connect button, which opens the same form in its settings. You sign in once: every copy of Home Assistance on this PC uses the same connection.
Allow the widget
The first time the widget connects, Qaem Hub asks whether Home Assistance may control your home, with a 4-digit code. The widget shows its code too.
- Check that the two codes match.
- Click Allow in Qaem Hub.
You do this once: copies of the same widget share the approval.
Pick what each copy shows
Tap the gear on the widget to open its settings. They have four tabs:
- Entities. Pick up to 12 entities for this copy, by room or by kind, in the order you like. With none picked, the copy chooses for its type: lights for Tiles, sensors for Sensors, your scenes for Scenes.
- Layout. Widget type, density, tile style, names, states, levels and graphs, and text size.
- Home Assistant. Which server you're connected to, and the sign-in form.
- More. How the alarm arms (Home, Away or Night), the alarm code if yours asks for one, and colours.
Layout, text size and colour settings are also in iCUE's widget settings, and the two stay in step. Entities, Allow opening, the alarm code and the sign-in are only in the widget.
Locks, alarms and garage doors
Locking and arming take one tap. Unlocking, disarming and opening a garage door work only for the entities you allow: in Entities, tap Allow opening next to each one. Even then, the widget asks for a second tap ("Tap again to unlock"), and Qaem Hub refuses the action unless the widget confirms it.
What it can access
Home Assistance sees the entities your Home Assistant user can see, and calls the same services you could call from Home Assistant: switching a light, setting a temperature, running a scene. While a copy is on screen, the module keeps a live connection for the entities, sensor history and camera stills that copy shows.
The sign-in stays encrypted on your PC, in Qaem Hub. The widget talks only to Qaem Hub on 127.0.0.1, and Qaem Hub talks to your Home Assistant directly. Nothing goes through QaemDev's servers. Only widgets you allow in Qaem Hub can use the connection.
Good to know
- Only what's in Home Assistant shows. Tapo, Hue, Alexa-connected and other devices appear once they're added to your Home Assistant.
- Changes show live. Switch a light from Home Assistant or a wall switch and the widget follows straight away.
- Cameras show a fresh still every 10 seconds. Tap one for a new still now.
- Lights switch with a tap, set brightness with a slider, and colour bulbs offer six colours.
- Follow iCUE screen colours in the widget's colour settings uses your EDGE's screen theme instead of the widget's own colours.
Troubleshooting
"Qaem Hub isn't running"
Tap Start Qaem Hub, or open it from the tray or the Start menu. If it isn't installed, Get Qaem Hub opens its download page.
"Turn on Home Assistant in Qaem Hub"
The module isn't added, or it's switched off. Tap Open in Qaem Hub and add it, or switch it on in Library.
"Not allowed"
Qaem Hub was told no, or nobody answered in time. If nobody answered, tap Ask again and click Allow in Qaem Hub. If it was denied, open Home Assistant in Qaem Hub and click Reset under Widgets, so the widget asks again.
None found on your network
Some networks don't pass the discovery the widget uses. Type your Home Assistant's address instead, the one you open it at in your browser, including the port, such as http://192.168.1.20:8123.
"Can't reach Home Assistant"
Qaem Hub lost its connection to Home Assistant. Check that Home Assistant is running and that your PC can open it in a browser, then tap Try again.
"Home Assistant refused the sign-in" or "Home Assistant signed you out"
The sign-in or token is no longer valid, for example because the token was deleted in Home Assistant. Tap Connect again and sign in, or paste a new token.
A device shows "Unavailable"
Home Assistant itself reports the device as unavailable or unknown. Check it in Home Assistant: the widget can't control it until Home Assistant can.
The text is too small, or too large
Use Text size in iCUE's widget settings, or in the widget's Layout tab. Each copy has its own.
