Set up Obsidian Connect

Install Qaem Hub and its Obsidian Connect module, import the widget in iCUE and pick your vault. No sign-in and no Obsidian plugin.

Updated 11 Oct 2026

Obsidian Connect puts your Obsidian vault on the XENEON EDGE: today's note with its tasks, what's due, your bookmarks, recent notes, tags and the days you wrote. It reads your vault straight from its folder on your PC through Qaem Hub, a free app for your PC. There's no sign-in, no Obsidian plugin and no key to paste.

Before you start

Setup

Install Qaem Hub and add its Obsidian Connect module

  1. Download and run Qaem Hub Setup.exe. It installs for your Windows account, starts with Windows and waits in the tray.
  2. In Qaem Hub, open Add modules, select Obsidian Connect and click Install selected.

The module reads your vaults and makes the changes you ask for. Set up Qaem Hub covers the install in more detail, including the SmartScreen warning. More about the app is on the Qaem Hub page.

Get and import the widget

  1. Get the .icuewidget file from the Elgato Marketplace. If you bought it on qaemdev.com, download it from Account → Downloads at /account/downloads. The Obsidian Connect page links to both.
  2. Double-click the file. iCUE picks it up and imports it.
  3. If nothing happens, open iCUE, go to the Widgets panel, use the + button and choose the file.

Place it and pick its Widget type

Open your EDGE's layout in iCUE and drag Obsidian Connect onto it. It fits every tile size, horizontal or vertical, and long lists scroll inside the tile.

In the widget's settings beside the layout, choose a Widget type and a Design:

Widget typeWhat it shows
TodayToday's daily note, with its tasks to tick and how many are done.
TasksOpen tasks from the whole vault, a folder, a tag or one note, with due dates and priorities.
PinnedYour Obsidian bookmarks.
Recent notesThe notes you edited or made last.
Quick captureA bar to add a task or a line, plus quick lines one tap away.
Note previewOne note, rendered, scrolling inside the tile.
StatsNotes, words, your writing streak and open tasks, with a year's calendar of the days you wrote.
TagsYour tags and how many notes carry each.

The four designs are Paper, Cards, Focus and Strip. Add the widget more than once to give each copy its own job.

Pick your vault

There's nothing to sign in to. Obsidian Connect lists the vaults Obsidian knows on this PC.

  1. Tap the gear on the widget and open the Vault tab.
  2. Switch on the vaults Obsidian Connect may read. If the widget shows Use "…" here?, tapping Use it does the same for that vault.
  3. Under This copy shows, pick the vault for this copy, or leave it on The first vault switched on.

A vault that isn't listed. Type its folder, such as C:\Users\you\Notes, under Add a folder and tap Add. The folder has to be an Obsidian vault: open it in Obsidian once first. Look again refreshes the list.

Allow the widget

The first time the widget connects, Qaem Hub asks whether Obsidian Connect may use your notes, with a 4-digit code. The widget shows its code too.

  1. Check that the two codes match.
  2. Click Allow in Qaem Hub.

You do this once: copies of the same widget share the approval.

Daily notes

Obsidian Connect follows your vault's own daily note settings: the same folder, date format and template Obsidian uses. It reads them from Obsidian's Daily notes core plugin, or from Periodic Notes when that plugin has daily notes switched on. With neither set, notes are named YYYY-MM-DD in the vault's top folder.

When today's note isn't there yet, the Today view says so and offers Start it. The widget makes the note from your daily note template, filling in {{date}}, {{time}} and {{title}} as Obsidian's Templates plugin does.

In the widget's Show settings for Today, choose whether completed tasks show and how the date reads.

Tasks and due dates

Tasks are ordinary Markdown tasks (- [ ] …). The widget reads dates and priorities the way the Tasks plugin writes them, so you don't need the plugin installed to see them:

  • Due date: 📅 2026-10-14, or Dataview's [due:: 2026-10-14].
  • Scheduled and done dates: ⏳ and ✅.
  • Priority: 🔺 highest, ⏫ high, 🔼 medium, 🔽 low, ⏬ lowest.

In the Show settings for Tasks, choose where tasks come from, which ones show (overdue, today and overdue, the next 7 days, with or without a date), a minimum priority, the order, and how Paper and Focus group them.

Done dates in the Taps settings adds ✅ and today's date when you tick a task, as the Tasks plugin does. It's off by default.

Working in the tile

  • Tick a task by tapping its box.
  • Hold a row for its menu: edit the line, change a task's due date, or delete the line. Deleting asks for a second tap.
  • Hold the title for the widget's menu: browse the vault's folders, search note names and words, open today's note, add a task or line to any note, make a new note from a template, or switch vault when you have more than one.
  • Open notes in the widget, with their tasks to tick and [[links]] to follow, or straight in Obsidian. Choose under Notes open in the Taps settings.

What it can access

The Obsidian Connect module reads the vaults you switch on, from their folders on your PC. It changes a note only when you tick, add, edit or delete something, and then it changes only that one line. If the note changed since the widget read it, nothing is written. Line endings and the file's encoding are kept.

Your notes never leave your PC. The widget talks only to Qaem Hub on 127.0.0.1, and only widgets you allow in Qaem Hub can use your notes. Opening a note in Obsidian uses Obsidian's own obsidian:// links.

Good to know

  • Settings in two places. Widget type, design, rows, spacing, text size and colours are also in iCUE's widget settings, and the two stay in step. The vault, folders, tags, capture and taps are only in the widget's own settings.
  • Quick capture adds to today's note or to an inbox note you name (made if it isn't there), under a heading you choose, as a task, a bullet or plain text.
  • Obsidian doesn't need to be open. Notes show without it; opening one in Obsidian needs Obsidian installed.

Troubleshooting

"Qaem Hub isn't running"

Tap Start Qaem Hub, or open it from the tray or the Start menu. If it isn't installed, Get Qaem Hub opens its download page.

"Turn on Obsidian Connect in Qaem Hub"

The module isn't added, or it's switched off. Tap Open in Qaem Hub and add it, or switch it on in Library.

"Not allowed"

Qaem Hub was told no, or nobody answered in time. If nobody answered, tap Ask again and click Allow in Qaem Hub. If it was denied, open Obsidian Connect in Qaem Hub and click Reset under Widgets, so the widget asks again.

"Open a vault in Obsidian once, or add a notes folder"

No vaults were found. Open your vault in Obsidian once on this PC, then tap Set up and Look again. Or add the vault's folder by its path in the Vault tab.

"That folder isn't an Obsidian vault"

Folders added by path must be Obsidian vaults. Open the folder in Obsidian once (Open folder as vault), then add it again.

"… moved or was deleted"

The vault's folder isn't where it was. Tap Pick a vault and choose it again, or add its new location.

A tick or a new line didn't stick

If the note changed since the widget last read it, the widget writes nothing, so it never overwrites your edit. Wait a moment for it to catch up, then try again. Read the vault again in the title menu reads everything afresh.

Today's note isn't the one Obsidian opens

Check the vault's Daily notes settings in Obsidian (or Periodic Notes, if you use it). The widget uses the same folder and date format.
