Playnite Library puts your Playnite library on the XENEON EDGE: every game with its cover, how long you've played it and when you last did, from Steam, Epic, GOG, emulators and everything else you keep in Playnite. Tap a game to play it through Playnite. The widget reads your library through Qaem Hub, a free app for your PC, and nothing leaves your PC.
Before you start
Setup
Install Qaem Hub and add its Playnite module
- Download and run
Qaem Hub Setup.exe. It installs for your Windows account, starts with Windows and waits in the tray. - In Qaem Hub, open Add modules, select Playnite and click Install selected.
The module reads your Playnite library and starts games through Playnite. It never changes your library. Set up Qaem Hub covers the install in more detail, including the SmartScreen warning. More about the app is on the Qaem Hub page.
Get and import the widget
- Get the
.icuewidgetfile from the Elgato Marketplace. If you bought it on qaemdev.com, download it from Account → Downloads at /account/downloads. The Playnite Library page links to both. - Double-click the file. iCUE picks it up and imports it.
- If nothing happens, open iCUE, go to the Widgets panel, use the + button and choose the file.
Place it and pick its Widget type
Open your EDGE's layout in iCUE and drag Playnite Library onto it.
In the widget's settings beside the layout, choose a Widget type:
| Widget type | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Library | Your games, with source chips, sort and filter, as a spotlight, a showcase, a shelf of covers or a list. Auto picks by the tile's shape. |
| Recently played | The last games you played as wide cards, the running one first. |
| Favorites | The games you starred in Playnite, or one of your Playnite categories. |
| Now playing | The game you're playing, with its session time and total playtime. With nothing running, Continue with the last one. |
Add the widget more than once to give each copy its own job.
Connect to your library
There's no sign-in. Once the Playnite module is on, the widget finds Playnite and reads your library. The first read shows Reading your Playnite library… for a moment.
While Playnite is closed, the widget reads the library from Playnite's own files.
While Playnite is open, Playnite keeps its library to itself. A small read-only extension, Playnite Library Bridge, shares it so the widget stays up to date. Add it in one tap:
- Open Playnite.
- On the widget, tap Install extension. Qaem Hub adds it to Playnite.
- When the widget says Restart Playnite to finish, tap Restart Playnite.
From then on the widget follows your library live while Playnite runs: new games, playtime and what's running.
Allow the widget if asked
The Playnite module holds no passwords or keys, so Qaem Hub normally lets the widget straight in. If it ever shows the widget's name and a 4-digit code, check it matches the code on the widget and click Allow.
Play
- Tap a game to start it through Playnite, with your emulator profiles, scripts and playtime tracking as usual. Turn on Ask before starting a game if you'd rather confirm first.
- Hold a game (or tap its ⋯) for its details: Play, Show in Playnite, source and platform, playtime and launches, completion status, when it was added, genres, categories and tags.
- The widget never closes a game. Use Show in Playnite, or the game itself.
Choose what it shows
In iCUE's widget settings, or the widget's own settings:
- Source: all sources, or one, such as Steam, Epic, GOG or games added to Playnite by hand and emulators. The widget's own settings list every source your library has.
- Sort: recently played, name, most played, most launched or recently added.
- Games: all games or favorites, and Installed games only.
- Layout, Cover size, Names under covers and Playing banner.
- Text size, and colours, or Follow iCUE screen colours.
What it can access
The Playnite module reads your Playnite library: games, covers and backgrounds, playtime, sources, platforms, favorites, categories and tags. It never writes to your library, and the extension is read-only too. Games start through Playnite's own playnite:// link, so Playnite does the launching.
Your library is read locally and nothing leaves your PC. The widget talks only to Qaem Hub on 127.0.0.1.
Good to know
- Playnite owns your favorites, categories and hidden games. Star or categorise games in Playnite and the widget follows. Hidden games stay hidden.
- Covers and backgrounds are the art you set in Playnite.
- Read the library again in the widget's settings reads everything afresh.
Troubleshooting
"Qaem Hub isn't running"
Tap Start Qaem Hub, or open it from the tray or the Start menu. If it isn't installed, Get Qaem Hub opens its download page.
"Turn on Playnite in Qaem Hub"
The module isn't added, or it's switched off. Tap Open Qaem Hub and add it, or switch it on in Library.
"Update Qaem Hub"
Your Qaem Hub is older than the Playnite module. Tap Get Qaem Hub and run the installer again: it updates Qaem Hub in place.
"Playnite isn't on this PC"
Qaem Hub couldn't find Playnite. Install it from playnite.link and add your games. If you use a portable copy, start Playnite while Qaem Hub is running, so Qaem Hub can see where it is.
"Add the Playnite extension"
Playnite is open, so its library is locked and there's no saved copy to show yet. Tap Install extension, then Restart Playnite. Or close Playnite, and the widget reads the library from its files.
"Restart Playnite to finish"
The extension is installed, and Playnite loads it when it starts again. Tap Restart Playnite, or close and reopen Playnite yourself.
"Your Playnite library is empty"
Add games in Playnite and they appear here. If you filtered to favorites, tap Show all games.
A game doesn't start
The widget shows "Playnite didn't start …" when Playnite refuses. Start the game once from Playnite itself to see why, for example a missing install or emulator.
