XENEON EDGE not working? Fix detection, widgets, no signal and touch

XENEON EDGE not showing in iCUE, widgets not showing, no signal or touch not working: what causes each one and how to fix it, step by step.

By ·Updated

The CORSAIR XENEON EDGE is two things at once: a 2560 × 720 monitor that Windows drives, and a touchscreen that iCUE can take over for widgets. Most problems come from one half not knowing about the other. Find your symptom below and work through the steps in order.

How the Edge connects

Two cables do two different jobs, and most problems start here.

CableWhat it carries
USB-C to the PCPower, touch and the data iCUE uses. The Edge has no battery and needs this connection.
HDMI on the Edge to DisplayPort on the PCVideo only.
One USB-C cable, video includedPower, touch, data and video, but only from a USB-C port that outputs video, such as a laptop's or a Thunderbolt port. Most desktop graphics cards don't have one.

The box has the HDMI to DisplayPort cable, a USB-C cable rated for video, and a cable for an internal USB 2.0 header on the motherboard, for mounting the Edge inside your case.

XENEON EDGE not showing in iCUE

iCUE should find the Edge by itself once it's connected and install its device module, sometimes asking for a restart. When the Edge tile never appears, the cause is usually one of these: iCUE is out of date, Windows is duplicating your main monitor onto the Edge, or the USB-C link iCUE talks over isn't there.

Update iCUE

Install the latest iCUE from CORSAIR. Recent versions carry most of the Edge fixes: 5.44 brought widget imports and several Edge fixes, and 5.49.34 fixed widgets appearing on the wrong monitor after waking from sleep. Widgets built on the current framework, including QAEM's, need 5.45 or newer.

Unplug and replug both cables

This is CORSAIR's own first fix. Disconnect the USB-C and the HDMI cable, wait a few seconds and connect them again, USB-C first.

Set Windows to Extend, not Duplicate

CORSAIR says the Edge must be in Extend mode for iCUE, or anything else, to control it.

  1. Press Win + P and choose Extend.
  2. Or open Settings → System → Display and pick Extend these displays in the multiple displays menu.

If the Edge shows a copy of your main monitor, this is the cause.

Plug USB-C straight into the PC

iCUE talks to the Edge over USB. Use a rear USB port on the motherboard or the internal header, not a hub, an extension, a monitor's USB port or a front panel port that only charges. Try the other cable in the box if you have a spare port.

Restart iCUE, then the PC

Quit iCUE from the tray, start it again, and if the Edge still isn't listed, restart Windows so the device module finishes installing.

If iCUE still won't see it but Windows shows the Edge as a display, you can use it without iCUE. See If iCUE still won't work.

XENEON EDGE widgets not showing

The Edge shows Windows, not your widgets. iCUE only draws widgets while it's running and in control of the screen, so check that first.

Switch the Edge back to widgets

The Edge has two display modes: widgets drawn by iCUE, or a plain Windows monitor. To switch back to widgets:

  1. Open iCUE and select XENEON EDGE.
  2. Click Screen Setup in the left panel.
  3. Set the iCUE Widgets toggle back from Desktop.

Switching to Desktop doesn't delete your widget layout. It's still there when you switch back. If you set a Switch Display Mode shortcut in Screen Setup, pressing it toggles the mode, which can happen by accident.

Make sure iCUE is running

Widgets disappear when iCUE closes. The mode shortcut also needs iCUE running in the background. Set iCUE to start with Windows if it doesn't already.

Check Extend mode

A Duplicate setup stops iCUE from drawing on the Edge. Press Win + P and choose Extend.

Widgets on the wrong monitor after sleep

Widgets landing on your main monitor after the PC wakes was an iCUE bug, fixed in 5.49.34. Update iCUE.

One widget is blank or stuck

If the others work, the problem is that widget. Remove it from the screen area and import it again, and check its own requirements. Some widgets, such as Launchify and the Deckord widget, need Qaem Hub running. Install an iCUE widget lists which ones.

XENEON EDGE no signal or black screen

Black usually means no power or no video. The HDMI port carries video only, so an Edge on HDMI alone stays dark.

Connect USB-C for power

The USB-C cable must go to the PC in every setup. It's the Edge's only power source.

Use HDMI to DisplayPort on a desktop

Single-cable USB-C only works if the port outputs video. Most desktop graphics cards and motherboard USB-C ports don't, which shows up as power but no picture. Connect the HDMI end to the Edge and the DisplayPort end to your graphics card, not the motherboard's video output.

Use a video-rated USB-C cable

For video over USB-C, CORSAIR says to use a cable rated for video, typically 20 Gbps or more. The one in the box is. A phone charging cable won't carry the picture.

Find it in Windows display settings

Open Settings → System → Display. If the Edge is listed but dark, check that it's set to extend, not disconnected. Click Identify to see which number is the Edge, and Multiple displays → Detect if it isn't listed.

Rule out the cable

Reseat both ends, then try another HDMI to DisplayPort cable or another port on your graphics card.

XENEON EDGE touch not working

Touch travels over the USB-C data link, not over HDMI. If the picture works but touch doesn't, the USB link is the first suspect. If touch works but lands on your main monitor, Windows has mapped it to the wrong screen.

Use a USB port that carries data

CORSAIR notes that a charging-only port disables touch. Plug USB-C into a rear motherboard port or the internal header.

Map touch to the Edge

When touches land on the wrong monitor, tell Windows which screen is the touchscreen:

  1. Search Start for Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input. It opens Tablet PC Settings.
  2. On the Display tab, click Setup and choose Touch input.
  3. A message appears on one screen at a time. Press Enter to move it on until it's on the Edge, then tap the Edge once with one finger.

iCUE's own first-time setup does the same thing, with Tap this screen with a single finger to identify it as the touchscreen. If Tablet PC Settings doesn't show touch options at all, Windows isn't seeing the touchscreen, so go back to the USB step.

Touch is off or calibrated wrong

If taps land a little off, use Calibrate on the same Display tab, or Reset to undo an old calibration. CORSAIR's iCUE also has its own touch calibration for the Edge.

Turn off multi-finger gestures

If touches trigger Windows gestures, open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touch and turn off the three and four-finger touch gestures. CORSAIR suggests this for the Edge.

Tapping the Edge minimizes my game

Touching another screen takes focus away from a full-screen game. That's how Windows works, and CORSAIR's answer is to play in borderless windowed mode. iCUE 5.49.34 also added mouse lock options for the Edge to help with this.

If iCUE still won't work

iCUE is only needed for iCUE widgets. Once Windows shows the Edge as a display and touch is mapped to it, the Edge is a normal touch monitor, and anything can use it.

EdgeOS is a free Windows app that fills the Edge with a touch dashboard of widgets: clock, PC stats, media controls, a volume mixer, weather, calendar and more. In Desktop Mode it runs on the Edge as a Windows screen, so it needs no iCUE at all, and a stuck iCUE or a missing Edge tile doesn't matter. If iCUE does work, EdgeOS can also run as a widget inside it, in Widget Mode.

  1. Download EdgeOS and run the installer.
  2. In the first-time setup, choose Desktop Mode.
  3. Pick a starting layout.

If iCUE is still installed, set the Edge to Desktop in its Screen Setup, or quit iCUE, so it doesn't draw its widgets over EdgeOS.

Set up EdgeOS covers the rest. Touch and video still need the cables above, because no software can fix a missing USB link.

Questions

Do I need iCUE for the XENEON EDGE?

No. Without iCUE the Edge works as a touch monitor in Windows. iCUE adds its widgets, its touch calibration and the display adjustments Windows doesn't have. Apps such as EdgeOS fill the Edge in Desktop Mode without iCUE.

Why does the XENEON EDGE copy my main monitor?

Windows is set to Duplicate. Press Win + P and choose Extend. iCUE can only control the Edge in Extend mode.

Can I connect the XENEON EDGE with only HDMI?

No. HDMI carries video only. The Edge always needs the USB-C cable for power, and touch needs it to be a data port, not a charging-only one.

Does iCUE delete my widgets when I switch to Desktop?

No. Switching to Desktop stops iCUE drawing the widgets, but your layout stays and comes back when you switch to widgets again.

Why do my widgets show on the wrong monitor after sleep?

That was an iCUE bug, fixed in iCUE 5.49.34. Update iCUE to the latest version.
