To get Spotify on the XENEON EDGE, add the free Now Playing widget in EdgeOS. It reads what's playing from Windows itself, so it works with the Spotify app, the Spotify web player, YouTube Music in a browser, Apple Music and anything else that shows up in Windows' own media controls, with the artwork and play, pause and skip buttons on the touchscreen. It runs full screen on the Edge or inside iCUE as a widget.
Does iCUE have a Spotify widget?
iCUE's built-in Media widget is for your own pictures and videos: it shows images, clips and wallpapers, not what Spotify is playing. So for a now playing display you need another widget. Three options, depending on how you use the Edge:
| Works with | Where it runs | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|
| EdgeOS Now Playing | Any player that reports to Windows: Spotify, browsers, Apple Music, VLC | Full screen on the Edge, or inside iCUE (Widget Mode), or on any monitor | Free |
| Browser Media Controls Widget | Media in your browser tabs (YouTube Music, the Spotify web player, YouTube, Twitch) | iCUE | One-time purchase on the Elgato Marketplace |
| Dynamic Island | What's playing in any app, plus focus timers, meetings and alerts | iCUE | Coming to the Elgato Marketplace |
Set up Spotify on the XENEON EDGE with EdgeOS
Install EdgeOS
Download EdgeOS and run it. It's free, with no account. In the first-time setup, pick Desktop Mode to use the whole Edge, or Widget Mode to run EdgeOS inside iCUE next to your other widgets. Set up EdgeOS covers both.
Add Now Playing
On the Layout page, find Now Playing in the Widgets panel (it's under Essentials) and drag it onto the Edge. A wide tile suits the Edge: artwork on one side, the title and buttons on the other.
Play something in Spotify
Start a song. The widget picks it up within a second or so, with the cover art, the title, the artist and a progress bar.
Choose the look and buttons
Open the widget's Customize. Some of the options:
- Layout: artwork on the left, right, on top, behind everything, or none.
- Artwork: square, rounded, a circle, or a spinning record.
- Buttons: shuffle, previous, back a few seconds, play / pause, forward, next and repeat, each on or off, with Seconds to skip set to 5, 10, 15 or 30.
- Show the player's name: puts "Spotify", "Chrome" and so on above the title, handy if you switch between apps.
- Colours from the artwork: the play button, progress bar and backdrop take the colour of the album cover.
- Tap the bar to jump, and Hide if nothing playing.
YouTube Music on the XENEON EDGE
YouTube Music in Chrome, Edge or Firefox reports to Windows like any other player, so Now Playing works with it exactly as with Spotify. Turn on Show the player's name if you also use Spotify, so you can tell them apart.
If you'd rather control the browser directly, for example to switch between several tabs that play media, focus a tab or close it, use the Browser Media Controls Widget in iCUE. It needs the free Browser Media Controls extension for Chrome or Firefox and Qaem Hub. The same extension also drives Stream Deck keys and a Windows app with a Dynamic Island.
What a now playing widget can't do
Windows shares the track, the artwork, the position and the basic controls. It doesn't share your playlists, your queue or search. To browse Spotify itself from the Edge, EdgeOS Premium has two ways:
- Window mirror. Shows the Spotify window live on the Edge. In Real window mode the app itself moves onto the Edge, so you can touch and type in it (Desktop Mode only). In Mirror mode it's a live picture of the window, which stays where it is.
- Volume Mixer (free). Sets Spotify's own volume, separate from your game and Discord.
Make it a music layout
Around Now Playing, these work well on the Edge:
- Audio visualizer (Premium): a live spectrum of whatever your PC plays, as bars, a reflection, a wave or a ring. It can float straight over your wallpaper.
- Audio output (free): switch between headset, speakers and monitor with one tap.
- Dynamic Island (Premium): a pill at the top of your screens with what's playing and controls a tap away.
More complete layouts are in XENEON EDGE setup ideas.
Not using a XENEON EDGE?
Now Playing works on any monitor too, on the desktop behind your apps or over every window, and on any small touchscreen you add. See desktop widgets for Windows and using any touchscreen as a widget panel.
