XENEON EDGE vertical mount and portrait widget layouts

Mount the CORSAIR XENEON EDGE vertically, turn it to portrait in Windows, and lay out widgets for a tall screen in EdgeOS, which keeps a separate portrait layout for every profile.

By ·Updated

Yes, the XENEON EDGE can be used vertically: Corsair supports both vertical and horizontal orientation, and you turn it to portrait in Windows under Settings → System → Display → Display orientation. EdgeOS detects the tall screen by itself and shows that profile's portrait layout, which you design separately from the landscape one. Until you do, it shows the landscape layout turned on its side, which squeezes wide widgets, so it's worth five minutes in the layout editor.

How to mount the XENEON EDGE vertically

The Edge has three ways to hold it, all usable on end:

  • The detachable magnetic stand for the desk.
  • 14 built-in magnets on the back, for a steel case panel, inside a case or on a PSU shroud.
  • Two ¼-20" mounting points, for an AV arm or an Elgato Multi Mount. An arm is the easiest way to stand it beside a monitor.

Most people put it upright next to the main monitor, on the side of the hand that reaches for it.

Turn the XENEON EDGE to portrait in Windows

Open Display settings

Go to Settings → System → Display and select the Edge in the diagram at the top. Identify shows which number is which.

Set the orientation

Under Display orientation, choose Portrait, or Portrait (flipped) if the picture comes out upside down, then Keep changes.

Check touch

Tap a corner. If your touches land in the wrong place or on another monitor, open Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Tablet PC Settings, click Setup, choose Touch input and tap the Edge when Windows asks.

Portrait layouts in EdgeOS

EdgeOS keeps four layouts in every profile: Desktop Mode in landscape and portrait, and Widget Mode (inside iCUE) in landscape and portrait. It picks the portrait one whenever the screen it's on is taller than it is wide, so turning the Edge switches layouts with no setting to change. Your other monitors work the same way: a monitor turned to portrait gets its own portrait layout too.

A portrait layout you haven't designed shows the landscape one turned: rows become columns, so a wide clock becomes a tall, thin one. To make a proper one:

Open the portrait layout

On the Layout page, set Layout to Portrait. You get a tall canvas: by default four tiles across.

Start from scratch or from the landscape one

Add widgets from the Widgets panel, or use Start from the landscape layout to copy what you have and rearrange it. On a free canvas layout (Premium), that keeps each widget's shape on screen and only shrinks it to fit the narrow screen.

Check it on the Edge

The editor shows the tall screen beside its tools and panels. Changes appear on the Edge as you make them.

The best widgets for a vertical XENEON EDGE

Some widgets are tall by nature and look their best on a vertical Edge:

iCUE widgets in portrait

QAEM's iCUE widgets, such as Home Assistance, the Kick widget (Kickify), Slack Connect and Github Connect, lay themselves out for any tile size, landscape or portrait. The Taskbar widget fits wide or vertical tiles too.
